A Funky Find
Inevitably we are asked, “Why Alabama?” The answer is easy if you have been there, but not so easy if you drive through without stopping. We find a new and interesting spot every time we take a drive within a 100 mile radius. For instance, The Lady in the Lake in Elberta, Alabama.
About the Lady in Alabama
We found it first online after we visited another funky find. The story we read indicated she had been damaged in a storm and was being repaired. When we investigated further we found that she had been damaged in a past hurricane but that a duplicate Lady is posted up at another area, further than our one hour radius, in Leeds, Alabama.
The original Lady started her journey in Leeds and then traveled to a marina in Elberta, Alabama, where it stayed until it was damaged. Recently she underwent major repairs and was returned to her home in Elberta. If you have a boat, something as simple as a dingy, or charter one, you can pull right up to her. Otherwise, you need to follow the trail to her. This great article has perfect directions to help you journey out to see her. We used this to help us figure it out the best viewing spot.
Ebike
This Marina is one of our favorite spots to ride our ebike. There are so many funky finds here, the roads are quiet and in good shape too. It is a great way to spend an afternoon, there is a good store if you use the Marina, or if you just want a snack. It also sells work from a local artist.
There are so many places to see and enjoy in Alabama. Be careful, a special trip to this spot will possibly change your question from Why Alabama? to When can we go to Alabama again?
